The
decade-long housing boom made Idaho one of the nation's fastest-growing
states, but one area where Idaho has really gotten behind is in
the maintenance of our existing transportation system and in the
construction of new infrastructure. Also, traffic congestion
has added to our air quality problems.
We
need leadership to fix our transportation issues. You know
this if you've been stuck in traffic. You know this if you've
driven in the ruts in the freeway west of town. During the
2008 legislative session, there was much discussion about our transportation
needs, but little progress was made on solving our problems.
Senator Kelly believes that we need to at least consider all of
our options for meeting our transportation needs now and in the
future including vehicle registration fees, fuel taxes, local option
taxes, and toll roads. She has supported GARVEE funding for the
construction of new infrastructure and giving local taxpayers the
ability to vote for local option funding for transportation.
