           Planning for Our Energy Future

Historically, Idahoans have enjoyed cheap, plentiful power. As our population grows, we are likely to lose that luxury.  Senator Kelly believes that there is an increasing need for Idaho to develop alternative energy sources and make sure our policies are encouraging energy efficiency and conservation. During her first two terms in office, Senator Kelly helped Idaho 's citizens and businesses prepare for their energy future by:

Serving on the Legislature's Interim Committee on Energy, Environment and Technology.
Helping write and pass the Idaho Energy Plan adopted by the Legislature in 2007.
Initiating and negotiating legislative and executive approval for the Idaho Energy Efficient State Building Act, requiring all new major state buildings and renovations to achieve greater energy savings saving Idaho taxpayers at least $1 million dollars in energy costs over the next five years.
Introducing (twice) a bill to put in place a statewide process for the selection of sites for the construction and operation of large energy facilities.
Introducing a resolution requesting state agencies to identify opportunities and steps the legislature could take to prepare for the likelihood of future greenhouse gas regulation and develop energy conservation and instate renewable resources.
