           On the Record:
           Fixing our Healthcare System

     
 

With many of Idaho's citizens struggling to keep up with rising health care costs, Senator Kelly believes that elected officials can partner with the health care industry to fix our broken system. She believes that policymakers and providers can help to encourage consumers to take steps to prevent medical problems, and that steps can be taken to ensure greater accountability and transparency within the health care delivery system. Senator Kelly is a strong advocate for treating substance abuse and mental health issues before they escalate into problems for our families, schools and correctional system.

 

During her first two terms in office, Senator Kelly got results on the healthcare issue by:
 
  • Serving on the Senate Health and Welfare Committee.  
  •  Serving on the Interim Legislative Health Care Task Force.  
  •  Serving on the Millennium Fund Committee allocating tobacco settlement monies to be used for tobacco and illegal substance prevention and treatment.
  •  Carrying a bill establishing the Nursing Workforce Advisory Council and the Nursing Workforce Center within the Department of Commerce and Labor. 
  •  Carrying a bill amending the Idaho Anatomical Gift Act to provide registration for the storage and transport of human bodies or human body parts intended for research or educational purposes.    
  • 

Co-sponsoring an amendment to the Idaho Constitution to create a permanent endowment fund for the tobacco settlement money.
