An
environmental attorney by profession, during her time in office,
Senator Kelly has become one of most the authoritative voices in
the Idaho Legislature on environmental issues. She has routinely
advocated for open space, planned growth, protecting our air quality,
and ensuring sufficient clean water to meet our future needs.

her first two terms in office, Senator Kelly's environmental work

a resolution requesting state agencies to identify opportunities
and steps the legislature could take to prepare for the likelihood
of future greenhouse gas regulation and develop energy conservation
and instate renewable resources. |

Co-authoring
a comprehensive amendment to the Noxious Weed Law to address
non-native plants adversely impacting Idaho lands and waters.

Carrying
the Idaho Community Reinvestment Pilot Initiative to provide
for financial assistance to eligible property owners conducting
voluntary cleanup of abandoned contaminated properties. |

Carrying
the Uniform Environmental Covenants Act dealing with the future
use of contaminated real estate or brownfields. |

Introducing
a bill adopting a state mercury emissions control plan. |

Introducing
a resolution to assess the nature and extent of mercury contamination
in the environment of the state of Idaho and the potential environmental
impacts from the addition of any new sources of mercury. |

a measure to require vehicle emissions testing throughout an
airshed where air pollution levels are high and an alternative
control measure is not available. |
